After losing to The Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory Fightin' Irish the last time they met, the Archbishop Riordan Crusaders decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Archbishop Riordan claimed a resounding 49-19 win over Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory on the road. Given Archbishop Riordan's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 56th, while Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory is ranked 257th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Archbishop Riordan got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Isitolo Tuugamusu out in front who rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries. Tuugamusu was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Charlie Johnson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Obryan Flanigan, who rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Jasaun Mabrey also helped out as he racked up 100 rushing yards.
Archbishop Riordan's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-10.
