Not much got past Jaxon Baker, who gave up just three hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Carvers Bay off the board. Baker is becoming a predictor of Andrews' success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 2-4-2 when he doesn't).
At the plate, Wyatt Bass was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby Marlowe, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Woodland hadn't done well against Academic Magnet recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Wolverines sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Raptors. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolverines have posted since April 16, 2024.
Dayton Cloer and Luke Crosby did most of the damage at the plate: Cloer scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Crosby went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Cloer also put up two doubles, which were his first of the season.
Woodland's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-10. As for Andrews, their win bumped their record up to 4-5-2.
Woodland's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Andrews has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Woodland, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Andrews keep running through batters, or will the Wolverines buck the trend?
Andrews might still be hurting after the 18-10 defeat they got from Woodland in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Will the Yellowjackets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
