After four games on the road, Second Baptist is heading back home. They will take on the Kelly Catholic Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Second Baptist knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 25 matchups -- so hopefully the Bulldogs like a good challenge.
Last Friday, Second Baptist didn't have too much trouble with the Eagles on the road as they won 60-44. Given Second Baptist's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Eagles are ranked 482nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Mike Olaly, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Christian Haskett, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, Kelly Catholic's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 41-30 to St. John XXIII.
The losing side was boosted by Munro Nichols, who scored 11 points.
Kelly Catholic struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They are 1-5 when they can't control their own glass like that.
Second Baptist has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season. As for Kelly Catholic, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-22.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Second Baptist have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 38 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Kelly Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Second Baptist against the Bulldogs in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 87-31 victory. With Second Baptist ahead 50-17 at the half, the match was all but over already.
