Softball Recap: Royal Wins Going Away Against Warden

Royal hadn't done well against Warden recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Knights were the clear victors by a 17-5 margin over the Cougars. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jill Allred was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Audrey Bergeson was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Adalynn Andersen was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.

Royal lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Royal and bumps their season record up to 9-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Warden, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Royal will be playing in front of their home fans against College Place at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights will need to watch out since the Hawks have now posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season. As for Warden, they are taking a road trip to take on DeSales at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
