The North Star Huskies came into Wednesday's game having lost 13 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 47-36 victory over Compass Charter on Wednesday. That looming 47-36 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for North Star yet this season.
North Star's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Blake Hansen led the charge by scoring 23 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hansen has scored at least a third of North Star's points. Another player making a difference was Milt Pettit, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Several Aviators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mason Bennett, who scored 17 points. That was a full 47.2% of Compass Charter's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Grayson Skimmyhorn was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 13 rebounds and four steals.
North Star's victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-15. As for Compass Charter, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Star will take on the Archers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Ambrose School has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 345 points over their last five games. As for Compass Charter, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Chargers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cole Valley Christian will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
