Lourdes and Byron are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Byron took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Lourdes, who comes in off a win.
Lourdes had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Dover-Eyota on Tuesday. Lourdes' pitcher stepped up to hand Dover-Eyota a 10-0 shutout. Lourdes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Jack McCabe, who gave up just two hits to keep Dover-Eyota off the board. McCabe has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lourdes got a massive performance out of Nicholas Bowron, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Bowron has become a key player for Lourdes: the team is 6-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brayden Kottschade, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Lourdes was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. The last time their batting average was this high was was before the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Byron came up short against John Marshall on Wednesday and fell 4-1. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lourdes has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Byron, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.
Lourdes came out on top in a nail-biter against Byron when the teams last played on Monday, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
