The Cimarron-Memorial Spartans will head out to take on the Western Warriors at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cimarron-Memorial has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Cimarron-Memorial fell victim to Durango and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 11-0 to the Trailblazers. The loss continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Trailblazers: they've now lost four in a row.
Cimarron-Memorial saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mares Kai, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. That double marked the first that Kai has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Western put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Thursday. Everything went their way against Pinecrest Academy Cadence as they made off with a 15-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won four in a row.
Carlos Cota made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Cota was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Western is undefeated when Cota posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, Western got a massive performance out of Edgar Garcia, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Garcia also scored three runs, which is notable because the Warriors are undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Cade Quintana was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and one triple.
Western was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .522 or higher in four consecutive games.
Cimarron-Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Western, their record now sits at 10-6.
Cimarron-Memorial came up short against Western in their previous matchup back in March, falling 6-3. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
