Smith Academy and Turners Falls are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Falcons will head out to take on the Thunder at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Smith Academy is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Smith Academy made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Mount Everett Regional, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Falcons fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 9-7 on Monday. On the bright side, the seven- run performance marked the Falcons' highest-scoring game to date.
Smith Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Harrison LaFlamme, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. LaFlamme also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season. Garret Willard was another, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, while Turners Falls put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Mahar Regional. The Thunder put the hurt on the Senators with a sharp 6-0 win. The Thunder haven't had any issues with the Senators recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Mahar Regional's batters probably weren't too happy with Kainen Stevens, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 11 Ks (he gave up a single walk). Stevens also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Turners Falls is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 0-3 otherwise.
At the plate, Jackson Cogswell was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Trevor Lyons, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
The win got Turners Falls back to even at 3-3. As for Smith Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Smith Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Turners Falls struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Smith Academy might still be hurting after the 15-1 loss they got from Turners Falls in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
