The Lincoln High Links were the 67-60 winner over the Grand Island Islanders when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. Lincoln High took a 43-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grand Island on Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Lincoln High has scored all season.
Lincoln High's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Klayton Nguyen, who scored six points.
It was another big night for Mukadi Mukoma, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds for Grand Island. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Mukoma has scored at least 25% of Grand Island's points. Babur Choul was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Lincoln High's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-5. As for Grand Island, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-4.
Lincoln High will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lincoln North Star at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Grand Island will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Kearney at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Ben Johnson and Mukoma.
