Sahuaro hasn't had much luck against Rincon/University recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cougars will welcome the Rangers at 5:00 p.m. Rincon/University took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Sahuaro, who comes in off a win.
Sahuaro not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 24th. They put the hurt on Tucson High Magnet School with a sharp 3-0 victory.
Sahuaro didn't let Tucson High Magnet School take a single set, but it sure wasn't easy: every set was decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-22, 25-23.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Rincon/University's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of Salpointe Catholic by a score of 3-2.
In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Rincon/University sadly wound up on the wrong side. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 16-25, 25-19, 19-25, 15-13.
Sahuaro will need to focus on slowing down Nic Sanchez, one of several Rincon/University players who made an impact when they last played. He had 20 digs and two assists.
Sahuaro's win bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Rincon/University, their loss dropped their record down to 12-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Sahuaro has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Rincon/University struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.5 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Sahuaro might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Rincon/University in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
