The St. John's/Tipton Catholic Blujays lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Tuesday was a bit more commanding. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 65-44 walloping at the hands of Bennington. While losing is never fun, St. John's/Tipton Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while Bennington is ranked 44th).
Despite the defeat, St. John's/Tipton Catholic saw an underclassman step up: Edward Horinek scored 17 points along with two steals. Horinek has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Christopher Larocque was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Eli Lawson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Bennington, scoring 25 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. Lawson hasn't dropped below 15 points for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Garrett, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
St. John's/Tipton Catholic has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Bennington, their victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2.
St. John's/Tipton Catholic will be playing in front of their home fans against Tescott at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Tescott is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak. Bennington will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Sterling at 4:30 p.m. on January 26th. Sterling is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
