Basketball Recap: Ellinwood Makes It Six in a Row on the Road

Ellinwood entered their tilt with Hoisington on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They took down the Hoisington Cardinals 52-34. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Cardinals are ranked 209th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ellinwood got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Julia Schlessiger out in front who posted eight points and 13 rebounds. Schlessiger is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brynn Widener, who put up 13 points.

Ellinwood was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hoisington only racked up nine assists.

Hoisington's loss came despite strong showings from Kelsi Maier and Brynn Tarlton. Maier went 5 of 11 on her way to 10 points and eight rebounds, while Tarlton scored a point along with six assists and five steals. Laeya Beck also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Ellinwood pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points over those games. As for Hoisington, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Ellinwood has already played their next matchup (against Central Plains), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Hoisington, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Cardinals duke it out with the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Haven has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
