It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Valley View Spartans had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against Purcell Marian by a score of 31-22. The win was familiar territory for Valley View who now have three in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Valley View to victory, but perhaps none more so than Caden Henson - qb 2024, who rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 165 yards and three touchdowns. Landen Malara was another key contributor, picking up 55 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Several Cavaliers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayel Harris, who rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries. Harris hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlyun Neal, who picked up 111 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Valley View's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 36.54 points. As for Purcell Marian, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-3.
Valley View has the luxury of staying home another week and will welcome Waynesville at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Waynesville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Valley View likes a good challenge. Purcell Marian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
