Regis Groff has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Aurora Central Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Regis Groff focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Regis Groff took a serious blow against Vista PEAK Prep, falling 83-37. While losing is never fun, Regis Groff can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 270th, while Vista PEAK Prep is ranked 21st).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Miguel Morales, who scored four points.
Meanwhile, even though Thornton scored an imposing 68 points on Tuesday, Aurora Central still came out on top. Aurora Central walked away with a 79-68 victory over Thornton. The win was a breath of fresh air for Aurora Central as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Aurora Central got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Charles Laurendine II out in front who dropped a triple-double on 19 points, 13 rebounds, and ten assists. Laurendine II is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Camron Crisp, who scored 21 points along with two steals.
Regis Groff dropped their record down to 4-14 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Aurora Central, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Regis Groff have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Aurora Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Regis Groff was dealt a bruising 70-35 defeat at the hands of Aurora Central in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Regis Groff was down 36-15.
