The Van Wert Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Shelby Whippets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Van Wert had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They strolled past River Valley with points to spare, taking the game 48-30. Van Wert pushed the score to 41-14 by the end of the third, a deficit River Valley cut but never quite recovered from.
Brylen Parker continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 141 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing for 237 yards and three touchdowns while completing 74.2% of his passes. Keldyn Bill was another key contributor, rushing for 97 yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Shelby can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Cleveland Central Catholic 40-0 at home. Given Shelby's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Cleveland Central Catholic is ranked 477th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Van Wert has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Shelby, their victory was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-2.
Everything came up roses for Van Wert against Shelby when the teams last played back in November of 2020 as the squad secured a 49-7 victory. Does Van Wert have another victory up their sleeve, or will Shelby turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
