Keyser is 0-3 against Washington since March of 2016 but things could change on Saturday. The Golden Tornado will be playing in front of their home fans against the Patriots at 1:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Friday, Keyser got the win against Hampshire by a conclusive 11-3. That's two games straight that the Golden Tornado have won by exactly eight runs.
Leighton Johnson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, Kailynn Burns was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bibs Felton, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Washington, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Martinsburg an 11-0 shutout on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Patriots needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Like Keyser, Washington also got a great game from a two-way player: Mckenzie O'Hara. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. O'Hara has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Washington let Carly Constantino and Ella Ranck run wild. Constantino scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3, while Ranck scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Kalyn Dean was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Washington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Washington pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Keyser, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Keyser might still be hurting after the 13-2 loss they got from Washington in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will the Golden Tornado have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
