Sara Paniagua made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Heights got a massive performance out of Flora Moreno, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Moreno has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Arredondo, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 12.8.
Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Cesar E. Chavez's offense. They came up short against King on Saturday, falling 6-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Lobos have suffered since February 16, 2024.
Cesar E. Chavez saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Penelope Hernandez, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Heights now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Cesar E. Chavez, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Heights hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Cesar E. Chavez struggles in that department as they've averaged .373. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
