Softball Recap: Lone Peak Takes a Loss

Lone Peak extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 4-12 in the process. They came up short against the Pleasant Grove Vikings, falling 19-4. The Knights were not able to make up for their defeat to the Vikings from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Maggie Nelson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Madisen Barnes, who got on base in both of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

As for Pleasant Grove, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. Considering they have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Pleasant Grove's side, Keslie Draney made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Draney a new career-high. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles.

In other batting news, Pleasant Grove got a massive performance out of Maile Larsen, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits Larsen has posted over her last ten games. Another player making a difference was Grace Norman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lone Peak will square off against Lehi at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pleasant Grove, they will challenge Skyridge at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.26 runs per game on average), something the Vikings will no doubt try to take advantage of.
