Softball Recap: Niles North Wins Going Away Against Niles West

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Niles North and Niles West, and Niles North kept the tradition alive. The Vikings blew past the Wolves 11-3 on Thursday. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

Lucy Hibicke was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Infante, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Analina Tumang was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Niles North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Niles North has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Niles West, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Niles North will challenge Amundsen at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Niles West, they will take on Regina Dominican at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Wolves surely won't give up without a fight.
