Given McAllen Memorial's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while Pioneer is ranked 611th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Valley View suffered their biggest loss since December 15, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by Vela at home and fell 77-43. Valley View was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-20.
McAllen Memorial has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. As for Valley View, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-18 record this season.
