Softball Recap: Plant City Wins Going Away Against Spoto

Plant City got themselves on the board against Spoto on Tuesday, but Spoto never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Spartans. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

Kayleigh Gibbs made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

In other batting news, Samantha Raines was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Kyleigh Meiers, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Plant City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .739. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spoto only posted an OBP of .357.

Plant City has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That lines up perfectly with their 12-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Spoto, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Plant City will challenge Sumner at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Spoto, they will square off against Freedom at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
