St. Michael's Advances to TAPPS Semi-Finals After Defeating

The Crusaders traveled to Bryan for a neutral site regional round playoff game against The Pioneers of Lutheran South Houston (20-9-3). Lutheran South beat St. Michael's 3-1 in the regional round last year in a devasting loss that saw The Crusaders have 3 players sent off...playing 11-8 for most of the 2nd half. Coming off a 2 overtime win against British International in the area round of the playoffs, The Crusaders would again need 2 overtimes against The Pioneers after being tied 3-3 at the end of full-time. With 2:34 left before the contest would go the penalties, Carlos Benitez-Tover ('23) found Drew Tufto ('22) just outside the penalty area. Tufto managed to beat the Lutheran South center back and put a shot past the keeper to send St. Michael's to the state semi-finals. Other goals were scored by Nick Mahoney ('23), Holt Bliss ('22), and Sebastian Vargas-Lopez ('23). Mahoney would also assist on the goal by Bliss. Noah Culp ('22) also had an assist.
