Joey Gallo leads 2012 MaxPreps All-American Baseball Team

Bishop Gorman's Joey Gallo was one of the nation's top sluggers this season, and he was one of the top pitchers as well. The No. 1 player from the nation's No. 1 team is the MaxPreps All-American Player of the Year.

Joey Gallo's team finished No. 1 in the final MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Baseball Rankings, and likewise he stands atop the 2012 MaxPreps All-American Baseball Team.

Gallo concluded a spectacular career with Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) that saw him play on four straight state championship teams and finish as the state's all-time home run hitter with 70, including 21 as a senior.

Gallo was also drafted No. 39 overall in the Major League Baseball Draft by the Texas Rangers and he was a big reason the Gaels finished No. 1 in the national rankings.

Besides his hitting exploits, Gallo was also solid on the mound. Although he pitched mostly in save situations, Gallo did start against Gloucester Catholic, the eventual New Jersey Non-Public A state champion, and threw a no-hitter with nine strikeouts in an 8-0 win.

Johnny Goodrich of Spruce Creek (Port Orange, Fla.), meanwhile, is the MaxPreps National Coach of the Year after leading his team to the Florida 8A state championship. Along the way, Goodrich knocked off previously unbeaten, and national No. 1, Olympia to advance in the 8A playoffs. The Hawks then defeated Columbus (Miami) 7-1 for their first state championship in school history. Spruce Creek finished No. 3 in the final Xcellent 25 National Rankings.
