9. Tim Couch, Leslie County (Hyden, Ky.)One of the most prolific passers in national history, Couch threw for 12,104 yards to set a national record at the time (1995). He earned Player of the Year honors from USA Today, Student Sports, Parade and Gatorade and signed with Kentucky. Couch never quite led the Wildcats to glory on the gridiron, though he was a Heisman Trophy candidate in 1998 (losing to Ricky Williams). Picked No. 1 overall in the NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns, Couch lasted six seasons in the NFL.
