With the winter sports season point totals added to the standings, Bentonville, with 818 points, holds a 54-point lead over No. 2 Carmel. No. 3 Cardinal Gibbons is close behind with 758 points. Cardinal Gibbons held the lead after the fall sports season while Bentonville was second and Carmel was third.
Bentonville has won seven state championships this season, capturing titles in boys swimming, boys tennis, football, girls swimming, girls tennis, girls cross country and girls volleyball. The Tigers have also finished second in boys basketball, girls golf and boys cross country.
Carmel has won state championships in boys swimming, girls swimming, girls cross country and girls volleyball. Cardinal Gibbons, meanwhile, has won state championships in boys soccer, boys and girls cross country, girls golf, girls tennis and girls volleyball.
The MaxPreps Cup is determined by ranking all schools that win a state
championship or finish second in the state, or section level if there is
no state competition.
Points are also weighted, giving
more points to states that have a high number of schools, as well as more
points to schools that compete in larger enrollment divisions. Sports
are also weighted differently with football and basketball, among
others, receiving more points than sports like golf and tennis.
