The Southwest Virginia Academy Conquerors came tearing into Thursday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against New Covenant by a score of 48-36. This was payback for Southwest Virginia Academy, who suffered a 44-30 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Despite the loss, New Covenant still got an impressive performance from Brielle Walker, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 52.8% of New Covenant's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ellie Jacobs was another key contributor, scoring two points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Southwest Virginia Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. As for New Covenant, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-5.
Southwest Virginia Academy will play host again and welcome Tri-Cities Christian, where tip off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for New Covenant, they will head out on the road to face off against North Cross at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
