The Sultana Sultans baseball team (Hesperia, CA), 4-2 in Tuesday's non-league outing with the host Upland Highlanders/Scots (Upland, CA)

The Highlanders/Scots now hold a 1-0 record. They put it on the line next when they host Eisenhower for a non-league outing on Thursday, March 5. Upland will confront a Eagles team coming off a 4-3 non-league win over Hesperia (Hesperia, CA). The Eagles record now stands at 1-1.

Next, the Sultans confront the Fontana Steelers (Fontana, CA) in a non-league outing, on Thursday, March 5. Sultana will attempt to advance on its 3-1 season record. The Steelers go into the outing with a 0-2 record after their 13-1 non-league loss to Montclair (Montclair, CA).

Sultana got off to a quick start with three hit s in the top of the first. But in the bottom of the first senior catcher Junior Fregosa drove a deep double to the left field gap to score Skyler De La Rosa and Ryan Almendinger. Sultana tied the score in the top of the 3rd and the game stayed tied behind the steady pitching of sophomore starter Chad Plant. A Sultana rally in the top of the 6th was snuffed out when sophomore left fielder made a sensational diving catch of a left field blooper to prevent the go ahead run from scoring. Junior Adrian Mardueno came on in relief with two on and no out and was able to shut the door on a tough Sultana offense. The game winner was sparked by speedy center fielder and lead off hitter Marcus Salas avoiding a sweeping tag of an errand throw from shortstop. He eventually scored the go ahead run on sophomore second baseman Drew Cowley's clutch game winning single to the right centerfield gap.
