Player of the Year
Jordan Thomas has been named player of the year. "Thomas was one of the Bears top scorers, rebounders and led the team in steals. After helping lead the Bears (20-9, 9-1 Central California Conference) championship, Thomas was selected as the CCC Most Valuable Player by conference coaches. "What set him apart as the MVP candidate is he brought consistency on a nightly basis," said coach Adrian Sanchez. "If his offense was off we knew we would get top notch defense, energy, and rebounding. He was willing to do whatever it took to get a win for his team. In terms of the league; he was the most versatile player with a high-plus rating on a nightly basis." Thomas averaged 13.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.3 steals per game in Merced's 10 CCC games. "Defense is his priority but he can also get to the rim or certain spots on the floor to knock down his jumper. He has phenomenal awareness and angles which allowed him to cause turnovers as well as rebound effectively. Most importantly, he has great character and is very coachable.""
