The Corning Cardinals softball team scored 9 points and limited the visiting Yreka Miners to 5 in the Cardinals non-league triumph on Thursday.

With the triumph, Corning improves its record to 9-3 on the year. The Cardinals travel to Central Valley (Shasta Lake, CA) to clash with the Falcons in a Northern bout on Tuesday, March 31. The Falcons go into the bout with a record of 3-6. Central Valley lost 2-1 in their recent non-league bout against Eureka (Eureka, CA)

The Miners now possess a 3-5 record. They play next when they travel to Sutter for a non-league bout on Friday, March 27. Yreka will confront a Huskies squad coming off a 12-0 league win over Orland (Orland, CA). The Huskies record now stands at 12-0.

The Northern Athletic League opened play today and the Corning Cardinals (9-4-1 Overall 1-0 NAL) beat the visiting Yreka Miners 9-5. The Cardinals scored twice in the first with Vada Sutfin getting base hit in the first and scoring on later on a wild pitch. Baillie Eller was hit in the foot and scored on the next pitch by an Erin Lowe triple down the right field line. In the third, the Cardinals had 10 batters come to the plate. Four hits and three walks turned into 4 runs with Michelle Silva and Erica White each having RBI singles in the inning. In the fourth, two runs would score. Jessica Flores tripled and scored on the next batter Baillie Eller's double. Eller would eventually score on a pass ball. In the sixth, Flores would single and be driven home by a Lowe base hit.
