In Tuesday's non-league contest, the El Monte Lions (El Monte, CA) softball team held off the visiting Lancaster Eagles (Lancaster, CA), by a margin of 5-4.

With the triumph, El Monte moves its record to 10-10 on the year. The Lions travel to Heritage Christian (Northridge, CA) to play the Warriors in a non-league contest on Thursday, May 19. The Warriors come into the contest with a record of 17-5. Heritage Christian won 4-1 in their recent league contest against Village Christian (Sun Valley, CA)

Heading into the bottom of the 7th, the El Monte Lions were facing a 2-run deficit. Miranda Hernandez worked a 1-ball 2-strike count and eventually drew a walk. After the next batter struck out and Hernandez took 2B on an error, Seanna Jimenez stepped up to the plate and hit a line-drive single to CF that brought Hernandez home and cut the deficit to 1. Next up was Ariana Gutierrez who promptly drove the 2nd pitch she saw into RCF for a triple, sending Jimenez home for the tying run and setting up Maileen Garcia. Maileen hit the first pitch she saw to the right side of the infield and the throw home was too late to get Gutierrez, scoring the winning run.
