Spectators at Thursday's non-league match between the Mountain View Spartans (Mountain View, CA) and the host Gilroy Mustangs (Gilroy, CA), witnessed Mountain View's softball squad prevail over Gilroy by a count of 16-4.

The Spartans now sport a 4-0 record. They play next when they host Lynbrook for a match on Tuesday, March 22. Mountain View will meet a Vikings squad coming off a 17-0 league loss to Gunn (Palo Alto, CA). The Vikings record now stands at 0-2.

With the loss, Gilroy moves to 2-3 on the season. The Mustangs host North Salinas (Salinas, CA) to meet the Vikings in a match on Tuesday, March 22. The Vikings go into the match with a record of 0-0.

Top o' the mornin' to ye! Set a spell and I'll tell ye no blarney!

'Twas a bright and glorious St. Patrick's Day when the lasses of Mountain View traveled a wee bit south to the emerald hills of the Land o' the Garlic. The Spartan misses hit 17 hits and scored 16 runs in 6 innings while holding Mustangs to 4 runs.

There was nary a need for the luck o' the Irish on a day that saw pitcher Sam Hernandez strike out 7 while her defense played error-less softball. Of particular note was a marvelous backhand stab deep in the hole by Julia Davancaze, who then spun and gunned a pea to first base.

Gilroy's top of the lineup hit the ball hard and scored 2 in the first and 2 in the 6th. Almost every player on MVHS, however, hit, scored, or drove someone in.

The Spartans hit and run well in their final tuneup before they begin league play on Tuesday against Lynbrook at Mountain View High School.
