In Wednesday's league contest, the Mayfield Cubs (Pasadena, CA) softball team held off the visiting Poly Panthers (Pasadena, CA), by a margin of 1-0.

With the triumph, Mayfield moves its record to 18-5 on the year. The Cubs travel to Westridge (Pasadena, CA) to play the Tigers in a Prep contest on Friday, May 14. The Tigers come into the contest with a record of 6-10. Westridge lost 9-0 in their recent league contest against Flintridge Prep (La Canada, CA)

Next up, the Panthers meet the Flintridge Prep Rebels (La Canada, CA) in a Prep battle, on Thursday, May 13. Poly will attempt to advance on its 8-7 season record. The Rebels go into the battle with a 9-10 record after their 9-0 league win over Westridge (Pasadena, CA).

A classic pitcher's duel on Senior Day with the Mayfield Cubs outlasting the Poly Panthers 1 - 0 in 10 innings. Poly's Stephanie Tercero and Mayfield's Katie Clancy faced off each pitcher holding off the other team for 9 innings. In the 10th inning using the International Tie Breaker rule, Poly put Megan Latta at 2B. Stephanie Tercero popped up a bunt, then Julie Tsai grouned out to second with Latta advancing to 3rd. Foster then grounded out to 1B to end the 1/2 inning. In the bottom half of the 10th, Lauren Armenta started at second for the Cubs. Jessica Parada then laid down a perfect bunt which stayed on the line and Armenta advanced to 3rd. Parada then stole second. Marina Marmolejo then came up and laid down a great bunt to load the bases. Mireya Hernandez then came to bat and scorched a Tercero pitch over the right fielder's head to drive in Armenta as the winning run. Katie Clancy got the complete game shut out victory for the Cubs allowing 1 hit and striking out 9.
