Danbury first-baseman Anthony Sabene fielded a checked-swing roller and stepped on the bag to end the Blue Wave comeback and give the Hatters a 5-4 victory. With one out in the top of the seventh and Danbury nursing a 5-2 lead, starting pitcher Ted Malley singled and John Gardner followed with a double. James Patton added a sacrifice fly to pull Darien within two, and walk and single by Ryan MacDonald loaded the bases. Michael Alfieri walked to force in a run and send the tying run to third. Reliever Stephen Sirko then bore down and got the soft grounder to first to preserve the win for the Hatters. Danbury picked up three in the first on a leadoff double by Ian Ratchford (3-3) and a two-run homer by Anthony Mannuccia. Starting pitcher Chris Fiddner followed with a long triple to left center, and was plated by Mike Beers' sacrifice fly. Darien's other runs came on rbi singles by Sousa and MacDonald.
