Tyaire Ponzo-meek has been named player of the year. "The MaxPreps player of the year for Flight, Conference, State Champion Howard Wildcats is point guard Tyaire Ponzo-Meek. Tyaire was a 24 game starter this season and had been starter for Coach Dimascio since his Sophomore season for the Wildcats. This year Tyaire stepped his game up to be an elite player in the state while leading Howard to its first title since 1996. For the season, Tyaire averaged 15.4 points/gm (2nd on the team), 6.3 reb/gm (3rd on the team), 4.3 asst/gm (1st on the team), and 1.9 steals/gm (3rd on the team). Tyaire also led the team from the foul line, shooting 77% (89-115). Tyaire was above the team average in all shooting categories. 55% all field goals (team was 49%), 57% 2pt field goals (team was 56%), 40% 3pt field goals (team was 35%), and as previously mentioned 77% FT (team was 63%). No one player could win a championship by himself, but Tyaire's efforts did not go unnoticed and he is to be commended for a great season, tournament, and career. "
