Andrew Valancius has been named player of the year. "Congratulations on Andrew Valancius as being named the MaxPreps Player of the Year for 2012-2013 for the Bishop McLaughlin Hurricanes. Andrew finished the season with 8.9ppg, 7.3rpg, 3.7spg, 3.7 apg, and 1bpg. An all around player, at 6'4" he led the Hurricanes offensive attack from all five positions at various points of the season. Andrew finished the season with six double-doubles, and had a season high 21 point, 13 rebound game against Out-of-Door Academy. He also had a career high for assists when he nearly missed a triple double against St. Stephen's Episcopal in February, where he put up 9 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds in the game. In Andrew's final game as a Hurricane, he did everything in his power to get the Hurricanes to the next round of the district tournament, putting up 16 points (8-14 from the field), with 5 assists and 10 rebounds. In addition to all of those attributes, he carried a 4.1GPA for four years and plans to pursue a degree in Business next year."
