University Phoenix (Newark, NJ) backers were in high spirits Saturday as they witnessed their basketball squad tip the visiting Barringer Blue Bears (Newark, NJ), 43-39 in a non-league bout.

With the win, University upgrades its record to 3-5 on the season. The Phoenix host Kearny (Kearny, NJ) to play the Kardinals in a non-league bout on Saturday, January 6. The Kardinals go into the bout with a record of 4-3. Kearny lost 52-49 in their recent league bout against Ferris (Jersey City, NJ)

Next up, the Blue Bears play the West Orange Mountaineers (West Orange, NJ) in a non-league bout, on Tuesday, January 9. Barringer will attempt to upgrade on its 2-3 season record. The Mountaineers go into the bout with a 1-8 record after their 58-40 non-league loss to Orange (Orange, NJ).
