In Monday's non-league contest, the host Virginia Academy Patriots basketball team scored a close 62-55 triumph over the Steward Spartans.

The Patriots (9-5) will now prepare for their contest against Winston Salem Christian National (Winston-Salem, NC). The Lions go into the non-league contest with a 18-3 record. In their last contest, Winston Salem Christian National nipped 1 of 1 Academy (Indian Trail, NC), 69-60, in a league contest.

In their next game, the Spartans confront the Norfolk Academy Bulldogs (Norfolk, VA) in a VISAA Division I contest, on Tuesday, January 14. Steward will attempt to better on its 10-6 season record.
