Nevada High School Basketball - Amplus Academy trounced by Bonanza
January 16, 2024: Las Vegas, NV 89113 The Bonanza Bengals trounced the host Amplus Academy Archers basketball team by a tally of 51-23 in Tuesday's league battle.
The Bengals now possess a 3-6 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Southeast Career Tech for a 4A Sky battle on Thursday, January 18. Bonanza will confront a Roadrunners team coming off a 71-34 league loss to Somerset Academy Losee (North Las Vegas, NV). The Roadrunners record now stands at 7-13.
The Archers (0-10) will now prepare for their battle against Valley (Las Vegas, NV). The Vikings come into the 4A Sky battle with a 10-7 record. In their last battle, Valley trounced Eldorado (Las Vegas, NV), 65-14, in a league battle.
First Quarter
Q1: Amplus
Defense: Lady Archers started slow this game.
They only created 4 steals/forced turnovers, blocked 1 shot and only grabbed 3 rebounds.
Offense: Due to 18 turnovers, Lady Archers only had 4 shots and made 1 basket (a layup by Gaby off a nice pass by Talaya).
This slow start allowed Bonanza to score 23 points and grab 14 rebounds.

Second Quarter
Q2: Amplus
Defense: Lady Archers woke up and started playing much better.
They created 7 steals/forced turnovers, blocked 2 shots and grabbed 14 rebounds.
Offense: But due to 13 turnovers, Lady Archers only had 6 shots and made 2 baskets (Mio, Vanesa) with Assists (Naia & Hailey).
But the Lady Archers started attacking the rim, getting fouled and earned 12 Free Throws, making 3/12.
Amplus won the 2nd Quarter 7-6, holding Bonanza to 6 points.
But the Lady Archers couldn't match up with Bonanza's size, getting beat on the boards, allowing 16 rebounds.

Defense: Lady Archers started slow after halftime.
They only created 5 steals/forced turnovers, but blocked 3 shots and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Offense: Due to 20 more turnovers, Lady Archers only had 5 shots and made 1 basket (a layup by Naia off a nice pass from Talaya).
This slow start allowed Bonanza to score 15 points and grab 17 rebounds.

Fourth Quarter

Defense: Despite being down by 28 points, Lady Archers played their best quarter in the 4th.
They created 17 steals/forced turnovers with intense fullcourt pressure on the ball, denying passing lanes, and active Help defense off the ball. Amplus blocked 2 shots and grabbed 8 rebounds.
Offense: Despite 15 more turnovers, Lady Archers created 15 shots and made 3 baskets (Naia, Hailey, and Hailey off a nice inbounds pass by Naia). Amplus was also gifted 2 points by Bonanza when they scored on their own basket.
The Lady Archers had 2 Assists and attacked the rim, got fouled and earned 14 Free Throws, making 4/14.
Amplus won the 4th Quarter, holding Bonanza to 7 points.

Amplus Academy showed they can play aggressive defense, forcing 33 turnovers by Bonanza. But the Lady Archers need to protect the ball better on offense, with a season-high 66 turnovers (Hailey-14, Olivia-13, Talaya-12, Naomi-8). These turnovers cost Amplus the Win.
