Nevada High School Basketball - Amplus Academy nipped by Eldorado
February 5, 2024: Las Vegas, NV 89113 The Eldorado Sundevils tipped the host Amplus Academy Archers basketball team by a final score of 25-20 in Monday's league game.
With the defeat, Amplus Academy moves to 0-16 on the year.
First Quarter
Q1 - Amplus:
On Senior Night, Amplus Lady Archers saved their best for last, as several players played their personal best in the final game of the season, and the team played well together from the opening tipoff.
Offense: Amplus worked the ball around with good passes, and took 9 shots, making 2 shots by Vanesa off 2 assists by Olivia. Amplus earned 4 free throws but missed all of them. Amplus protected the ball much better than they had most of the season, only committing 11 turnovers for the quarter.
Rebounding: Amplus boxed out and battled for loose balls, outrebounding Eldorado 11-4 in the quarter.
Defense: Amplus played good defense, forcing tough shots, giving up only 2 baskets on 12 shots and getting 6 steals.
The Refs called a tight game, so Amplus was whistled for several fouls, giving Eldorado 4 free throws in the quarter but made none.

Second Quarter
Q2 - Amplus:
Amplus Lady Archers continued to play good basketball on both ends of the court.
Offense: Amplus worked the ball around with good passes and took 9 more shots, but could not get any shots to fall. Amplus earned 4 free throws and made 2, one each by Amplus Seniors - Naomi and Olivia. But Amplus had trouble against Eldorado's press and committed 13 turnovers for the quarter.
Rebounding: Amplus continued to box out and battle for loose balls, outrebounding Eldorado 15-8 in the quarter.
Defense: Amplus had strong defense, forcing more tough shots, giving up only 1 basket on 13 shots and getting 5 more steals. The Refs continued to call a tight game, so Amplus was called for several fouls, giving Eldorado 10 free throws but only made one.

Third Quarter
Q3 - Amplus:
Amplus Lady Archers came out of the locker room and played good basketball on both ends of the court.
Offense: Amplus played better against the press and took 13 more shots, making two in transition against the press - one by Vanesa and one by Naia after a nice pump fake and finish at the rim. Amplus earned 14 free throws and made 4. And Amplus only committed 9 turnovers for the quarter.
Rebounding: Amplus continued to box out and battle for loose balls, outrebounding Eldorado 9-5 in the quarter.
Defense: Amplus had aggressive defense, forcing more tough shots, giving up only 1 basket on 9 shots and getting 8 more steals. The Refs called the game close, whistling both teams for several fouls which gave Eldorado 11 free throws, making 5, which kept the game .

Fourth Quarter
Q4 - Amplus:
Amplus Lady Archers continued to play well on both ends of the court, but foul trouble hurt the Lady Archers.
Offense: Amplus worked the ball around and took 16 more shots, but could only get 1 shot to fall. Amplus also earned 16 free throws and made 4 of them. But foul trouble cost Amplus their season-leading rebounder, Naia; their game-leading rebounder, Eva; their Senior point guard, Naomi; and Senior guard, Olivia.
So the Lady Archers were forced to finish the game with younger, less experienced players, and they committed 12 turnovers at critical times in the final quarter.
Rebounding: Amplus boxed out and outrebounded Eldorado 9-4 in the quarter.
Defense: Amplus defense stayed aggressive and made 7 steals, but gave up 3 baskets on 9 shots by Eldorado. The Refs called several fouls on Amplus, giving Eldorado 10 free throws,making 5, which was the difference in the game's final score.
