The Thoreau Hawks (Thoreau, NM) basketball nipped the visiting Newcomb Skyhawks (Newcomb, NM), 57-55 in Tuesday's league test.

The Hawks (10-11) will now prepare for their test against Navajo Prep (Farmington, NM). The Eagles go into the 3A District 1 test with a 14-4 record. In their last test, Navajo Prep got by Tohatchi (Tohatchi, NM), 81-61, in a league test.

The Skyhawks now own a 12-8 record. They play next when they travel to Wingate for a 3A District 1 test on Saturday, February 10. Newcomb will encounter a Bears squad coming off a 61-51 league loss to Zuni (Zuni, NM). The Bears record now stands at 6-13.
