The Poly Panthers basketball team scored 68 points and restricted the host St. Elizabeth Vikings to 62 in the Panthers non-league victory on Saturday.

The Panthers now sport a 16-5 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Howard for a non-league contest on Tuesday, March 5. Poly will battle a Wildcats team coming off a 81-62 non-league win over Middletown (Middletown, DE). The Wildcats record now stands at 20-1.

Quarter 1

Polytech, led by R. Hicks' 6 points jumped out on the visiting Vikings 17 to 7 as St. E's was not able to get its offense going.

Quarter 2

The Vikings then went to their pressing full court defense to generate its offense and was able to cut into Poly's 18 point 2nd quarter lead at 27 to 9 and cut it down to 10 at the half. The Vkings had balanced scoring throughtout its lineup to stay with the Panthers.

Quarter 3

St. E's, led by Brandon Gautier's 10 points and Andre Patton's 10 points including 2 three pointers cut the lead to 1 at before the Panthers scored the final goal in the corner to stretch the lead to 4 at the end of the 3rd.

Quarter 4

Patton and Gautier contnued their scoring surges in the 4th and the score was Panther's 62 vs. the Vikings 60 before J. Gray of Poly hit a big 3 pointer to extend the lead in the last minute forcing the VIkings to foul for possession. Poly's D. Mallory hit 4 big foul shots to allow the Panther's to hold the lead and knock the Vikings out of the State Tournament, ending their season at 14-8. The Panthers moved on to the quarter-finals to face #2 Seeded Howard High School. Patton again was the game high scorer with 23 points and 10 boards to continue his double/double streak for the entire season. He added 3 blocks, 1 assist and 1 steal to his stats. The Vikings however would not have been close without the 17 points of sophmore point guard, his career high.
