St. Francis Lancers (Mountain View, CA) backers exited the stadium thrilled Saturday as they saw their softball squad run past the visiting Mountain View Spartans (Mountain View, CA), 18-6 in a non-league challenge.

The Lancers now own a 1-2 record. They take the field next when they host Presentation for a non-league challenge on Tuesday, March 12. St. Francis will battle a Panthers squad coming off a 8-1 non-league win over Palo Alto (Palo Alto, CA). The Panthers record now stands at 1-0.

With the loss, Mountain View falls to 2-4 on the campaign. The Spartans host Independence (San Jose, CA) to battle the 76ers in a non-league challenge on Monday, March 11. The 76ers come into the game with a record of 1-0. Independence won 12-11 in their recent non-league game against Gunderson (San Jose, CA)

Serena Smith and Sarah Miller bravely stepped in and attempted to throw the ball over the plate; not an easy task for non-pitchers. The good news was that we did not walk hundreds of batters; they got their 9 hits legitimately. We 'only' walked 14 batters... Again, 6 runs looked good for the Spartans! And NO errors! That alone bodes well for the league opener next Wednesday at Milpitas.

Offensively, the Spartans found their power hitters: Serena Smith pounded out two doubles, and a triple in three at-bats; Sarah Rich went two for two with two runs scored - both hits doubles. Lea Crase went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI.
