Pennsylvania High School Baseball - Southern Lehigh edged by Northwestern Lehigh
May 13, 2024: Center Valley, PA 18034 The Northwestern Lehigh Tigers got by the host Southern Lehigh Spartans baseball team by a count of 5-4 in Monday's non-league bout.
The Tigers now possess a 17-4 record. They take the field next when they travel to Wilson Area for a non-league bout on Thursday, May 16. Northwestern Lehigh will face a Warriors team coming off a 4-2 league win over Salisbury Township (Allentown, PA). The Warriors record now stands at 12-7.
Next, the Spartans face the Parkland Trojans (Allentown, PA) in a non-league bout, on Monday, May 20. Southern Lehigh will attempt to move on its 15-7 season record.
Game Summary
The Tigers got a win in the Colonial League Semifinals in a 9-inning thriller, with a 5-4 victory over Southern Lehigh. The Tigers took a 2-0 lead early, with RBI doubles, by W Church and E Zimmerman, in the bottom of the 2nd. That score would stand, until the top of the 5th, when So Lehigh used 2 Tiger errors, to get an unearned run. They followed that up in the top of the 6th, with 2 more runs, to take a 3-2 lead. So Lehigh would take that 3-2 lead into the bottom of the 7th. With two outs, and the tying run on 3rd base, senior B Croneberger came up big with a single to send the game into extras at 3-3. The score would remain there heading into the 9th inning, when So Lehigh was able to push across a run, and take a 4-3 lead. But a single by E Zimmerman got the ball rolling. After a SB and pass ball, C Fitch tied the game with an RBI single. After the 2nd out, an intentional walk, and a conventional walk, J Augustus gave the Tigers a walkoff win, with a bases loaded RBI single.
