The crowd at Friday's non-league contest between the Smoky Mountain Mustangs (Sylva, NC) and the host Swain County Maroon Devils (Bryson City, NC), observed Smoky Mountain's football squad edge Swain County by a count of 21-20.

The Mustangs now own a 2-0 record. They play next when they travel to T.C. Roberson for a non-league contest on Friday, September 2. Smoky Mountain will play a Rams squad coming off a 12-0 non-league win over Ashbrook (Gastonia, NC). The Rams record now stands at 1-1.

Coming up next, the Maroon Devils play the Franklin Panthers (Franklin, NC) in a non-league contest, on Friday, September 2. Swain County will attempt to upgrade on its 1-1 season record. The Panthers go into the contest with a 2-0 record after their 14-12 non-league win over Cherokee (Cherokee, NC).
