Fans at Friday's league challenge between the Irion County Hornets (Mertzon, TX) and the host Garden City Bearkats (Garden City, TX), saw Irion County's basketball squad knock off Garden City by a count of 39-30.

With the victory, Irion County upgrades its record to 12-4 on the campaign. The Hornets travel to Bronte (Bronte, TX) to play the Longhorns in a 1A Region II District 11 challenge on Tuesday, January 17. The Longhorns come into the challenge with a record of 13-9. Bronte won 36-35 in their recent league challenge against Robert Lee (Robert Lee, TX)

Next up, the Bearkats play the Blackwell Hornets (Blackwell, TX) in a 1A Region II District 11 challenge, on Tuesday, January 17. Garden City will attempt to upgrade on its 12-10 season record.
