Calumet Copper Kings (Calumet, MI) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the visiting Gwinn Modeltowners (Gwinn, MI), 52-32 in a non-league bout.

With the win, Calumet upgrades its record to 6-5 on the season. The Copper Kings host Marquette (Marquette, MI) to clash with the Redmen in a non-league bout on Monday, January 22. The Redmen go into the bout with a record of 1-6. Marquette lost 62-32 in their recent league bout against Gladstone (Gladstone, MI)

Next up, the Modeltowners clash with the Ishpeming Hematites (Ishpeming, MI) in a Mid-Peninsula bout, on Saturday, January 20. Gwinn will attempt to upgrade on its 1-9 season record. The Hematites go into the bout with a 8-0 record after their 61-24 league win over Manistique (Manistique, MI).
