The Union Area Scotties (New Castle, PA) basketball felled the visiting Laurel Spartan (New Castle, PA), 60-40 in Tuesday's non-league test.

The Scotties (8-9) will now prepare for their test against Carlynton (Carnegie, PA). The Cougars go into the WPIAL 1A 1 test with a 3-9 record. In their last test, Carlynton went down by Western Beaver (Industry, PA), 75-60, in a league test.

The Spartan now own a 2-13 record. They play next when they travel to Shenango for a WPIAL 2A 1 test on Friday, January 26. Laurel will encounter a Wildcats squad coming off a 61-50 non-league loss to Mohawk Area (Bessemer, PA). The Wildcats record now stands at 9-6.
