Pennsylvania High School Basketball - Bishop McDevitt bests Boiling Springs
January 23, 2026: Boiling Springs, PA 17007 The Bishop McDevitt Crusaders basketball team scored 58 points and limited the host Boiling Springs Bubblers to 50 in the Crusaders league triumph on Friday.
Next, the Crusaders clash with the Big Spring Bulldogs (Newville, PA) in a Mid-Penn - Capital test, on Wednesday, January 28. Bishop McDevitt will attempt to improve on its 15-1 season record. The Bulldogs come into the test with a 8-5 record after their 55-26 league win over Camp Hill (Camp Hill, PA).
The Bubblers (9-10) will now prepare for their bout against Trinity (Camp Hill, PA). The Shamrocks go into the Mid-Penn - Capital bout with a 15-1 record.
First Quarter
Bishop McDevitt continued their impressive season with a hard-fought 58-50 victory over Boiling Springs on the road, improving their outstanding record to 15-1. The team showed tremendous resilience and character in what turned out to be a competitive battle against a determined opponent.
Second Quarter
The Crusaders got off to a fantastic start, jumping out to an early 5-0 lead behind strong play from Kenyon Portee Jr and Tommy Jones. Portee Jr dominated the opening quarter, scoring 9 points to help establish an 18-11 advantage. However, Boiling Springs showed their fighting spirit in the second quarter, putting together an 8-point scoring streak that cut the deficit to just two points at 18-16. Bishop McDevitt responded beautifully, with contributions from Patrick Denisco and Liam Fuller helping to restore control and take a 29-20 lead into halftime.
Third Quarter
The third quarter saw Bishop McDevitt extend their advantage with excellent shooting from Ethan Hammer, who knocked down a three-pointer and added a two-pointer to reach double figures with 10 points on the night. Portee Jr continued his stellar performance, but Boiling Springs refused to go away quietly, mounting another 6-point run late in the quarter to keep the game competitive at 40-31 heading into the final period.
Fourth Quarter
The fourth quarter provided plenty of drama as Boiling Springs made several pushes to close the gap, including a 7-point streak that brought them within three points at 49-46. When the pressure was highest, Portee Jr stepped up in spectacular fashion, scoring his final 8 points of the game to seal the victory. His dominant 30-point performance on efficient 12-19 shooting, including 2-4 from three-point range and 4-5 from the free-throw line, was the difference-maker. The balanced effort from the entire roster, with quality minutes from players like Hammer (10 points), Denisco (6 points), Jones (4 points), and Fuller (4 points), showcased the team's impressive depth and character in securing another important win.
