The Avella Eagles basketball team (Avella, PA), was nudged 40-38 in Monday's league battle with the visiting Mapletown Maples (Greensboro, PA)

The Maples now sport a 6-10 record. They put it on the line next when they host Geibel Catholic for a WPIAL 1A 2 battle on Thursday, February 1. Mapletown will battle a Gators team coming off a 42-39 non-league loss to Mt. Pleasant (Mt. Pleasant, PA). The Gators record now stands at 12-6.

The Eagles (3-14) will now prepare for their battle against Bishop Canevin (Pittsburgh, PA). The Crusaders come into the non-league battle with a 3-12 record. In their last battle, Bishop Canevin was nudged by Union Area (New Castle, PA), 53-19, in a league battle.
