Lawrence County Cougars (Monticello, MS) backers were pleased Thursday as they saw their basketball squad bounce the visiting Loyd Star Hornets (Brookhaven, MS), 80-43 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Lawrence County upgrades its record to 5-12 on the campaign. The Cougars host Forrest County Agricultural (Brooklyn, MS) to play the Aggies in a 4A Region 7 bout on Friday, January 5. The Aggies come into the bout with a record of 8-10. Forrest County Agricultural lost 38-37 in their recent league bout against Columbia (Columbia, MS)

Next up, the Hornets play the Amite County Trojans (Liberty, MS) in a 2A Region 7 bout, on Tuesday, January 9. Loyd Star will attempt to upgrade on its 12-3 season record. The Trojans come into the bout with a 3-11 record after their 65-58 league win over Wilkinson County (Woodville, MS).
